RIM injection

Low-pressure injection, also known as RIM injection (Reaction Injection Moulding), is a manufacturing method used to produce large plastic parts, particularly for machine bodies and technical components. This technique has applications in various sectors, including industrial machinery and equipment manufacturing. As an expert in plastics processing in Belgium and France, Plastisart puts its expertise at your service to meet your most demanding requirements.

Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) or low-pressure injection

RIM injection is a moulding process used to produce small series of plastic parts. It involves injecting a mixture of two liquid components, polyol and isocyanate, into a closed mould. The chemical reaction between these components forms a polymer. This technique is characterised by low-pressure injections into aluminium moulds and on presses that are less powerful than those used for thermoplastic injection. As a result, RIM offers an economical alternative for the production of large plastic parts and technical components.

Plastisart's expertise in RIM

At Plastisart, we have acquired significant expertise in the use of the RIM process. Our mastery of this process enables us to create high-quality plastic parts for a wide range of applications. We use aluminium moulds specially designed for RIM, which allows us to guarantee optimal results.

The advantages of RIM

RIM offers a range of significant advantages, making it particularly attractive formany applications. Here is an overview of these advantages:

  • Technical parts: RIM is ideal for the production of technical parts requiring specific properties. Its versatility allows the creation of components that meet rigorous functional requirements.
  • Similarity to conventional plastic injection moulding: RIM is similar to conventional plastic injection moulding in terms of quality and performance. It offers a viable solution for applications requiring high-quality plastics.
  • Low mould cost: The tooling cost for RIM is generally lower compared to other moulding processes. This makes RIM economically attractive for the production of small series parts.
  • Similarity to thermoforming: RIM shares similarities with thermoforming in terms of ease of production of large parts while ensuring low tooling costs.
  • Design and aesthetic parts: RIM allows the creation of design and aesthetic parts. It offers a wide variety of finishes, including smooth, grained and soft tactile textures.
  • Specific rigidity: RIM can be adjusted to meet specific rigidity requirements. This makes it suitable for various applications requiring special mechanical properties.
  • Assembly constraints and final functionality: RIM is particularly suitable for parts that must fit perfectly into a complex assembly and have specific functional requirements.
  • Weight savings compared to sheet metal: RIM allows the production of lightweight structural parts compared to equivalent metal components, helping to reduce the overall weight of finished products.
  • Wide variety of finishes: RIM offers unrivalled flexibility in terms of finishes. It allows the application of paints ranging from smooth to grained textures, soft tactile finishes, as well as three-dimensional decoration transfer and screen printing techniques.
